Changing Times

It has been a long time since I have written on our blog. It seems like the moments just pass by and before you know it a year has gone and so many things have changed and others (like the website not being updated haha) still stay the same.

As the borders open my Dad will be returning to his job teaching Tai chi. I think he is quite excited to reconnect with all his students and friends there. Imagine not being able to do the thing you love for 3 years and working crazy hospo hours at a Bao Bar instead. Anyone who has worked in hospitality (and especially ran a hospitality business) will probably concur that it is not an easy gig. I distinctly remember when we had changed it to a Bao Bar and had to get use to all the new processes, I came back from the shop around 1 a.m. one night and he walked out at that time to go to the shop to start making Bao! I am glad he is able to do the things he loves again.

However, as he goes, we have had to rejig the menu to make it more streamlined and change our opening times a bit. As much as it would make sense to open later in the evening and do the weekend nights the hours are just too long for my mum to handle. I hope you can understand this and apologise for the people who will miss out.

We appreciate everyone who has supported us through this time, the conversations that we have had and the little bits of kindness we have received and given. One thing that I have loved about being a part of a small family business is the ability to just know people in your neighborhood and connect.

I’m sure that there’s a lot going on in everyone’s mind and lives at the moment. The increase in the cost of living, all the things you see on the news and even the lingering claws of Covid still echoing in our life. Sometimes I sit and think “If I was in a position to lead what would I do?”. It all seems like a difficult and tangled mess! However from my experience working at the Bao bar I know one thing is certain: That keeping connected with our community and looking out for each other is an important part of the equation and its something that everyone can do.

So here’s a deal, you come by the Bao Bar and don’t be such a stranger, talk to my mum every now and then and in return we will continue to keep you full (you still have to pay of course :P!).

Thank you guys and I will try not to make my next post take so long.

Andy

Too fast to catch: This blurry photo captures how happy my mum is every time she finishes work haha.
